Who Does it Affect?

Anxiety disorders affect "about 40 million American adults every year." Anxiety can affect people of all ages, races, genders, and backgrounds. However, there are some races and genders that have higher diagnosis rates of anxiety disorders.

For instance, women are two times more susceptible than men to get an anxiety disorder sometime in their lifetime. Also, women and men are likely to be diagnosed with an anxiety disorder (agoraphobic avoidance, panic disorder, specific phobia, and social anxiety disorder) than men that are diagnosed with another disorder (bulimia nervosa, substance abuse disorder, intermittent explosive disorder, or attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, also known as ADHD.)
